Magistrates
in the Community Group
Community
Groups
The
MIC Project has, as one of its main aims, the raising of awareness
of the work of the lay magistracy at the local court level.
It
does this by making presentations to local community groups be
they, for example professional associations, business-based groups,
women's organisations, residents' associations or religiously-based
groups- many of which are constantly on the look out for speakers
with interesting talks to give.
MIC
presenters - all magistrates - will make visits to these groups
to explain
What
magistrates do
How magistrates are appointed
The business of local magistrates' courts
Magistrates' sentencing powers
How verdicts and sentencing decisions are reached
and
will offer
Sentencing
exercises of case studies taken from real life
Visits to the local court
